In-VIGO Description
In-VIGO stands for “In Virtual Grid Organizations”; it is Grid middleware that makes extensive use of virtualization techniques to provide flexibility, customization and isolation in shared Grid environments.
In the context of SCOOP, the In-VIGO middleware is being used to provide “virtual computing clusters,” where coastal ocean models, such as ADCIRC and CH3D, can execute. These virtual clusters use virtual machine, virtual network and virtual file system techniques to aggregate machines from different SCOOP partner institutions. The In-VIGO portal provides a front-end for SCOOP users to access resources in this virtual cluster, through a graphical command-line interface. It also provides access to virtual applications, which have Web-based user interfaces to select the parameters of the execution of a model. Access to the In-VIGO portal is granted upon request of a user account through the portal.
